Working with Siemens and a power plant in Germany, AAF retrofitted an SGT-600 exhaust system by adding a CO catalyst to reduce harmful carbon emissions.

An obligation to act now
In 2017, the Official Journal of the European Union stated NOx and CO levels must drop to respectively 45 mg/Nm3 [~7.6 ppmv] and 30 mg/Nm3 [~8.3 ppmv] for any combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) above 50 MW. Operators now have an obligation to act.
The solution in this case study was a complete retrofit of the exhaust system of the SGT-600, whilst keeping the exhaust pressure drop below 2,000 PA (8 in. WG). The upgraded CO catalyst stage consisted of platinum-based cells converting CO to CO₂, reducing the greenhouse effect, and reducing emissions below the required limits.
