Engineered Media

The SAAFCarb™ MC media is recommended for emergency removal of chlorine gas from an accidentally discharged storage container. SAAFCarb™ MC media consists of 1/8"-diameter, porous pellets formed from a non-toxic combination of powdered activated carbon, alumina and other binders. The pellets are uniformly impregnated to enhance the capacity for removal of chlorine to a 10% weight minimum.

Chemisorptive Process

The SAAFCarb™ MC media chemisorptive process removes chlorine gas by adsorption, absorption, and chemical reaction. The pellets trap and oxidize the gases, changing them into harmless solids while eliminating desorption. SAAFCarb™ MC media's engineering allows the process to be instantaneous, irreversible and chemically safe.

The media performs at a range of -40°F to less than 200°F. For emergency applications, the scrubber and SAAFCarb MC media are designed to handle flow rates equal to and greater than 400 lbs/min.

Packaging Options

SAAFCarb™ MC media is packaged in one-cubic-foot containers, and 1,100 lb. (499 kg) super sacks.

Application Guidelines

SAAFCarb™ MC media performs under the following application guidelines (actual capacities and efficiencies may vary):

  • Temperature: -4° to 125°F
  • Humidity: 10% – 95% RH
  • Suitable for use in commercial and industrial systems with equipment face velocities from 50 to 500 FPM (0.25 - 2.5 m/s)

Installation

The installers must use dust masks, safety goggles, and rubber gloves.

Disposal

The spent SAAFCarb™ MC media must be disposed of according to local, state, and federal guidelines.

Safety

Wet activated carbon adsorbs atmospheric oxygen, causing low oxygen supply in enclosed areas or packed containers. This can be potentially hazardous for workers who enter these oxygen-depleted areas. Make sure that the workers adhere to the provincial and state safety guidelines.
