AAF Europe acquires Swedish Dinair Group AB

AAF Europe and Dinair have joined together as an important next step in AAF’s strategy to be the number one company in the global air filter market and in all regions.

AAF Europe has acquired Dinair, one of Sweden’s largest manufacturers and suppliers of air filters. Dinair, established in 1982, emphasizes balanced filtration solutions and has a history of developing its own products.

Philip Whitaker, AAF International’s Chief Executive Officer, stated, “This acquisition is part of our strategy to become the clear leader in our industry, both globally and in every region. It is another clear example of our parent company Daikin’s long-term commitment to both AAF and to the air filtration industry. Working with Dinair, we will offer Nordic customers more choice and better access to truly innovative filtration products and services.”

“The Nordic market is a significant and important part of the overall European market. It is important that AAF, as the global leader in the air filtration business, is strong in all key markets. This acquisition represents a new AAF commitment to, and focus on, the Nordic region,” Dr. Stefan Berbner, COO, AAF Europe said.

“Combining Dinair and AAF will allow us to better serve all of our customers in the Nordic region. The regionalized strengths of Dinair will be reinforced with the broader product offerings of AAF, in order to satisfy all of our customers’ clean air and Indoor Air Quality needs. A stronger Dinair with the broadest product range in the industry will be able to offer more choices to all current and future customers in the Nordic region,” stated Niels-Erik Kongste, Vice President of Sales and Marketing of AAF Europe, and the new Managing Director of Dinair.

“It feels great that it is AAF Europe that acquired Dinair and that the company is retaining the entire Nordic management team. The only change is that I will not continue as the CEO. Instead, my role will be as Senior Advisor. Dinair has been bought by the global market leader and it will be a very exciting journey forward, that I want to follow and support.” said Fredrik Särnehed.

As public awareness continues to grow regarding the critical importance of maintaining healthy Indoor Air Quality (IAQ), so will the need for high-performance filtration solutions. Poor IAQ has been identified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as one of the top five most urgent environmental risks to public health. Lack of proper air filtration is the #1 cause of poor IAQ, according to the American Lung Association’s State of the Air 2015 Report.

In addition to IAQ, air filters have a dramatic impact on a building’s energy consumption and environmental impact. Therefore, the need for energy efficient and environmentally friendly air filtration solutions continues to increase. Approximately 50% of a building’s energy consumption goes to the heating, cooling, and moving of air, according to the Department of Energy, and air filters play a major role in how much energy each HVAC system will consume. Up to 37% more energy is used by HVAC systems with dirty coils vs. clean coils, and air filters provide much needed protection for those coils. Air filtration is also a major component of green building design. Green buildings use on average 26% less energy, emit 33% less carbon dioxide, use 30% less indoor water, and send 50%-75% less solid waste to landfills and incinerators, according to the General Services Administration (GSA).
